Hi everyone,
This week Fosun's at it again with a $5m investment in The Floor; we have a “whatever happened to…” follow-up type story with the Xiamen economic office opening in Tel Aviv; not to mention a rare prequel.
The Prequel: Last week an anonymous source leaked some juicy gossip: China’s Vice-President Wang Qishan will reportedly co-chair the China-Israel Joint Committee on Innovation Cooperation alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This week China’s Minister of Science Wang Zhigang had a quick two days in Israel talking with the government and JVP, whence he hinted at more collab with Israeli tech and companies. Ok, ok, it’s not a universe-shattering revelation since we have proclamations of collab dreamsalmost every week, BUT it hints at what we already know re: Joint Committee on Innovation Cooperation. So when they officially announce we can be all nonchalant like, “Yeah, I knew that” *flips hair*.
Other news: Not unlike a Tier 1 city rush hour metro experience, Mobike is elbowing its way further into Tel Aviv. (Don’t let the door hit you, Ofo, on the way out!) The City of Tel Aviv refuses to cooperate with Mobike, but who cares! Mobike and Car2Go are making it happen anyway. Between the market-seizing and arguably machiavellian maneuvers this feels like a melting pot of business culture happening right before our eyes.
ALSO… Featured this week is a not-so-typical startup competition that I tell you all about below.
Enjoy the newsletter, and as always give me a shout with thoughts and questions, or just to say hello.
