Hi everyone,
The theme this week was China ➡️Israel.
Sichuan Airlines is starting a direct route between Chengdu and Tel Aviv! On a strictly personal level but probably other levels too, this is awesome. Do you understand that the last time I went to Israel, the whole trip in each direction was 24 hours? That’s one full day and one full night, x2. It may have been faster than taking a Mobike but I’m not sure. As I came back to the Middle Kingdom I may or may not have shed a tear as I watched Chengdu slowly pass below us on the map and thought of the 12 whole entire hours ahead of me. The direct route will be 10 hours. I hope I get the panda plane!
DayDayUp has opened its doors in Israel - or should I say it has opened up Be All’s doors. Almost in the same breath, I read that 1) DayDayUp has set up shop in one of Be All’s co-working space and 2) Be All is expanding in Tel Aviv. Coincidence? Something to watch? Maybe. But what matters is that DayDayUp has landed and now we’re going to sit back and see what they do. They already have experience with Israeli companies as we reported back in November. We’re excited to see what’s next!
Other than that, Huawei does a Take Two, Israeli Game of Whales acquired Hong Kong Appstatics, somebody let it slip that ColorChip is probably getting acquired by someone for $300m, and the Tel Aviv Xiaomi store got more than it bargained for on opening day. Let’s just say the US’s Black Friday is a sweet little stroll in the park compared to Xiaomi’s opening day in Israel.
Startups: Remember, you have until Sept 15th to apply to your not-so-typical startup competition that I tell you all about below in the Featured section.
Enjoy the newsletter, and as always give me a shout with thoughts and questions, or just to say hello.
